Extending a challenge
In November 2022 I did the microβblog November blogging challenge, to blog every day of the month. I completed the challenge and received my special achievement pin. Aside from writing a microblog of no more than 280 characters, I also added a drawing from my notebook. The latter was so much fun, β¦ read more

Base
As a self-taught artist I don’t have a solid foundation in art-making. I’m aware of the art fundamentals, but never studied them thoroughly. Even so, I didn’t want to go out on a whimper, so I gave it all I got.

Sand
While sand is abundant on the Earth’s surface, it takes a special kind of coarse sand to use for building things, like concrete, silicon wafers, sand castles. It’s finer than pebbles, coarser than silt, so you can grab hold of it, yet not feel individual particles ποΈ

Examination
The magnifying glass is the staple for the lone sleuth who solves cases the police can’t by lack of intelligence and work ethic. This is, of course, a fantasy version of detective work π΅οΈββοΈ

Parade
When it said “parade”, my imagination went to “marching band”, and the few times in my life (especially when I was in my preteens) I noticed them. They are a lively bunch, attracting immediate attention from the whole neighborhood. In sports events they are a staple.

Defendant
In my experience, when personal attachments are involved, being impartial is almost impossible. We cannot but be irrational about who (or what) we love. I suppose a certain Christmas present will make me continue doing a challenge about drawing cats.

Chance
Happy π¦ing Dayβday of buying schmancy goods at bargain prices.
Now what’s the probability that I didn’t cheat at this ballpoint pen drawing? I had to mirror (eww!) the baby’s right hand, because I seem to have difficulties remembering what’s left and right π

Forest
Many authors believe in the statement, show don’t tell. However, saturating the readers minds with an abundance of details will put them off, confuse them to no end. There is such a thing as too much. I’m guilty to this as well. Trimming the fat the good way is hard.

Fault
Creatives deal with the hard reality that comfort while making, as if by an artisan AI bot, probably is reproducing, not creating. The end product looks so great because of established, proven to workβhence are not creativeβworkflows. That βFβ teaches us to do better.

Nationalist
I guess I’m not very patriotic myself. We don’t do a mandatory pledge of allegiance where I live, mostly because of freedom of religion, and separation of church and state. Although populism is certainly a thing here, extreme nationalism is frowned upon.

Hike
I suppose I never made a long hike. The problem is that I can’t leave my cats alone for longer than a day. Day trips I have done, several times. The longest day hike I can remember was about 60 km in 14 hours, in summer, no water. That was a mistake, as is the drawing.

Peasant
I watched a documentary about the European medieval history of peasants and landlords, and how 80 percent of the population worked the land. Some (70%) were serfs, and not all were poor, as you might expect. They were mostly neglected, though.

Dribble
Knowledge and experience are similar in the sense that they both come in small quantities and accumulate over time. It makes me realize how little I know, and that I can’t possibly know it all. And then there are things we can never know nor live through.

Brain
Literature often returns to this mysterious organ on top of our bodies. Be it Frankenstein who got a bad one, or the scarecrow from Oz who had one after all (spoiler!). Alas, its response often makes no sense, hence the mysteriousness.

Lump
Recent developments with AI on online artists communities (DeviantArt and ArtStation) make clear that art and artists are denied any deference for their key role in society. No consent is deemed necessary. So sad π
π¨πβοΈ -
Sticky
When you’re on a web service that’s full of fun and interesting people, that service tends to be sticky in a nice way. When that service turns sour from misbehavior, it’s sticky in an uncomfortable way. You might even call it fishy, since it reeks from discontent.

Split
The guys from the Connected podcast left Twitter en masse, because they couldn’t take the verbal attacks, bigotry and downright neo-nazism anymore. I can only hope they will become happier by no longer reading what a bunch of close-minded idiots think is free speech.
π¨πβοΈ -
attic
There’s a place in many houses where stuff is stored, or, more accurately stated, stowed away until people move house (and sometimes not even then). Up and away out of people’s minds.

I grew up in the era of the Apollo space program, and see it as how human explore space. Of course, robotic space exploration is much safer for humans and requires less onboard support. Therefore, robots have gone further into deep space than human ever would or could.
